This Week at Cinemapolis
Showtimes for February 14 - 20

Another week, another Award Winning film...starting this Friday, The Past, Asghar Farhadi's follow up to A Separation, joins the line up at Cinemapolis. Critics have used terms like "profound," "superb," "wrenching, startling, and utterly transformative" to describe this Palme d'Or nominee. See the performance that garnered Bérénice Bejo the best actress award at Cannes...but see it soon - this is a limited engagement!

While we're on the subject of awards, Hollywood's big night is just around the corner. Don't you want to spend it with your cinema-loving friends at your favorite non-profit independent movie theater? Reserve your spot at Cinemapolis's annual Gala Event - "And the Winner Is..." On the evening of March 2nd, from 7 pm until best picture is announced, you can enjoy great food, great drinks, and the big awards on the big screen.

All proceeds go directly supporting our mission to act as a community center where the art of film used to enrich people's lives, grapple with and illuminate contemporary issues, and, of course, to entertain. Find more details and get tickets at Cinemapolis.org.

The Readers' Theatre of Ithaca
Moves to Downtown Cinemapolis

The Readers' Theatre of Ithaca (RTI), now in the middle of its fourth season, is thrilled to announce their move to CINEMAPOLIS located in downtown Ithaca, 120 East Green Street. RTI will launch their move to the independent movie house with IN A FOREST, DARK AND DEEP, by Neil LaBute running March 7-9, 2014.

Said Anne Marie Cummings, RTI's Founder and Artistic Director: "It's very exciting for us to move downtown to Cinemapolis. Now RTI audiences can walk, take TCAT, park for free in the Green Street parking garage, shop, wine, and dine on The Commons before seeing an RTI production, and last, but not least, RTI audience members will now be able to purchase their theatre tickets on our website using Cinemapolis' online ticketing system."

RTI will occupy the 90-seat, movie theatre number one in Cinemapolis. The company will bring in theatre lights, a stage, and a modern, flat, floor-to-ceiling curtain which they purchased with the help of BSI Productions, in Ithaca, NY.

Brett Bossard, Executive Director of Cinemapolis, added: "This partnership with RTI provides a great opportunity for Cinemapolis to stretch a little. We're still Ithaca's member-supported independent movie theater, but through events like these, our unique downtown space can function as a community resource where audiences and arts of all kinds can come together."

Tickets for LaBute's psychological thriller can now be purchased through RTI's website via Cinemapolis (thereaderstheatre.com). Prices for students are $10 advance payment (student ID required at the door) and $12 at the door. Prices for adults and seniors are $12 advance payment and $15 at the door (cash and credit cards). For directions and to follow audio interviews on RTI's blog, visit www.thereaderstheatre.com.

Downtown Ribbon Cuttings ribbon cutting logo
Wednesday, February 19

Ribbon Cuttings will take place on Wednesday, February 19 at 11:00 am at Chemung Canal Trust Company at 202 E. State on The Commons and Acting Out NY, Center Ithaca atrium (171 The Commons) at 11:15 am.

Chemung Canal Trust Company is an independent community bank which has served the financial needs of businesses and individuals for over 175 years. They trace their roots to the opening of their namesake, the Chemung Canal, in 1833.

Acting Out NY has been offering classes, camps and workshops in film acting since the summer of 2011, for kids ages 4-16. The film projects they create are often centered around subjects kids deal with today like bullying, peer pressure, and finding their voices. We live in an age where everyone has a video camera whether it's on a cell phone, or an iPad, and kids are inundated every day with negativity in the media and commercial aspects of show biz. Their aim is to combat that by providing a safe place for kids to explore how the media affects them, and demystify "Hollywood" by showing kids what it's like to make a movie, commercial or TV show! The performing arts are an invaluable avenue to express kids' feelings, and you can see that evident in the final projects posted on their website, and on YouTube. Check out their short films, commercials for fellow local businesses and music videos online at www.ActingOutNewYork.com!
