EARTH DAY ACTIVITIES -

4/22: 12:00 noon-1:30 pm: Greening the Workplace. Brownbag luncheon in the small atrium in Center Ithaca. Come learn how to be green and save green in your office. Presenters: Gay Nicholson, Program Coordinator for Sustainable Tompkins & Kat McCarthy, Tompkins County Solid Waste4/24: 6:30-11:00 pm: Party for the Planet. Family friendly (costumes welcome!) face painting, solar stae, three bands, arts activities, door prizes, raffle: Roberta Dixon & Nancy Ridenour art works. Suggested donation of $10 or a dish to pass. Tickets available at Home Green Home, Greenstar, Volume Records and Ludgate Farms Market.
4/25: 11:00 a.m.-4:00 pm: SewGreen Crazy Quilt Bee. Free quilting activities at the Community School of Music and Arts.
4/25: 12 noon-1 pm: Art for a Just and Sustainable Community Parade. Gather at 11:00 am for a parade down the Commons from 12 noon - 1:00 pm.
4/26 12:00 noon-5:00 pm: Earth Day Ithaca 2009 Community Celebration at Steamboat Landing (Ithaca Farmer's Market). Opening Ceremony featuring Joe Mareane of Tompkins County. Additional activities include a parade for the earth, a sacred ceremony, an eco-friendly fashion show, food & beverages, a solar stage with music and dancing and much, much more.

BIG AND LITTLE RED DAY -

4/25: 1:00 pm- 2:00 pm: Official Reconition Ceremony for the Cornell Men's Big Red Basketball team and the Ithaca High School J.V. Boy's Little Red. Downtown Ithaca and the entire City of Ithaca will celebrate the accomplishments of the Cornell University Men's Varsity and Ithaca High School Boys J.V. Basketball teams at 1:00 p.m. The Cornell hoopsters recently went to the NCAA tournament for the second year in a row, while the I.H.S team won the Southern Tier Athletic Conference Championship. A proclamation from Ithaca Mayor Carolyn Peterson will be presented and the Cornell team will also shoot hoops and play basketball skill games with children. A Basketball hoop will be set up in Bank Alley on the Commons and all kids are invited to participate. The Ceremony starts at 1:00 pm in the Bernie Milton Pavilion.

SABADO GIGANTE -
4/25: 11:00 am- 4:00 pm: Sabado Gigante on the Commons. A giant Saturday celebration for children in grades 1 - 10. Sabado Gigante is based on the popular TV. show, which can bee seen on the Univision Television Network. It includes games and activities for kids, performances by student organizations from Cornell University, Ithaca College and area schools. The event is geared around community service and providing fun, performances, and prizes for the children in the community. Sabado Gigante runs until 4:00 p.m. and serves as the anchor for many of the other activities taking place on the Commons that day. It's sponsored by Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity at Cornell University COMMUNITY SCHOOL OF MUSIC AND ARTS -
4/24: 8:00 pm (3rd Floor Concert Hall): Popcorn Youth is proud to present KRANKY RECORDS dream pop artists WINDY & CARL and BENOIT PIOULARD live for the first time in Ithaca. Windy and Thomas will also collaborate as their duo, LAMBS LAUGHTER. Local musician and current Ithaca College student Chris Knight will open with his live electronics-based ambient noise. 8PM / ALL AGES/ $7.

4/25: 3:00 pm: Ginnah Howard Reads From Her New Novel Night Navigation. Ms. Howard spent time at the Constance Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts while writing this novel. 4/26: 3:00 pm: Sandy Krolick will read from his new memoir The Recovery of Ecstasy: Notebooks From Siberia.
